Albemarle Chapter Community Awards

Awards given by the NSDAR always start with nominees from local chapters.  These awards were developed to promote knowledge, loyalty, and love of country in the hearts and minds of American citizens, whether naturalized or citizens by birth. Information or applications for any of these awards may be obtained by contacting us.  For information on DAR scholarships please go to Patriotic Education.

DAR Good Citizens Award

This award was established in 1934.  This award is to recognize and reward senior high school students who possess the qualities of good citizenship: dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in home, school, and community. Albemarle Chapter presents an award to a student in each of the three high schools sponsored by the chapter.  Please contact us with any questions.

Good Citizenship Medal

This award is presented to girls and boys in elementary, junior high school, and senior high schools who fulfill the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism.  One medal per grade may be given. Contact us for more information about the DAR Good Citizens Award and the Good Citizenship Medal.

ROTC Medals

ROTC medals and campaign bars may be awarded to student cadets of outstanding ability and achievement in secondary school, junior college, college, or university ROTC programs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps and the Naval Sea Cadets Units. A student must have demonstrated qualities of dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability, and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of ROTC training.  The Albemarle Chapter awards an ROTC gold medal to a University of Virginia graduating senior in the Navy ROTC Program.  A bronze medal is awarded to a graduating senior in the Air Force Jr. ROTC program at Monticello High School.
