Albemarle Chapter Community Service

The Albemarle Chapter NSDAR provides financial support to many programs for children, the hospitalized, and the illiterate.  Our chapter members also provide their time and dedication to the support of these causes.

DAR Schools

Chapters support disadvantaged young people through support of  schools.  Albemarle Chapter helps to provide funding and supplies for these schools.  Please e-mail us with any questions.

  • Tamassee DAR School (Tamassee, SC),

  • Kate Duncan Smith DAR School (Grant, AL.)

Approved schools also receive support from the DAR.  They are for boys and girls who otherwise might not have an opportunity for education.

  • Bacone College (OK)

  • Berry College (Mount Berry, GA)

  • Chemawa Indian School (OR)
  • Crossnore School (Crossnore, NC)

  • Hillside School (Marlborough, MA)

  • Hindman Settlement School (Hindman, KY)

Veteran-Patients

Chapters provide the driving force in DAR service to the veterans.  Funding of parties and recreational programs, gifts and other monetary donations help provide the needs of the local Veteran Centers.  Albemarle Chapter provides funding and support to the McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond.  Awards for the Outstanding Youth Volunteer and Outstanding Veteran Patient are given annually by chapters and districts.  These winners then move on to state and national award competition.  Please contact us by e-mail with any questions.

Literacy Promotion

In 1989, the Literacy Promotion Committee was formed to encourage involvement by DAR members in programs which promote adult literacy.  "Each one teach one" is an encouragement for members to be trained as tutors.  The national motto is "To Make A Lasting Difference."  As tutors and helpers in the community we can and do "Make a Difference."  Please contact us by e-mail with any questions.
